This buckeye brakes for kitties!

As I was wandering around the net, the following quote from an ESPN article on Michael Vick caught my eye:
The public outcry had reached a fever pitch. PETA protested outside. Cars honk
and drivers waved to the group. The condemnation seemed universal. "I've been
doing this 20 years," says Bill Long, PETA activist and former Ohio State
quarterback, "and I've never seen anything like this."

What?? A former Ohio State QB and PETA activist? That's like a peanut butter and asparagus sandwich, Keith Richards and Julie Andrews, 4th of July and sashimi, ND football players and solicitation, uh, you get the picture.
From what I can find on the web, it looks like Mr. Long was the starting quarterback in 1967 and went 6-3. Including in this win total were victories over Ducks, Wolverines, and Badgers with a loss to the Wildcats. Apparently, his activism was not a problem on the field, although he did convince Woody Hayes to become a vegan for about twenty minutes.

SI did an players survey and one of the questions was on which coach, besides their own, they would like to play for.

Our boy Charlie only got one vote. I would suspect that desire to play for a specific coach would be one of the biggest drivers in recruiting - and therefore the order of coaches would serve as an excellent leading indicator for the rankings of the recruiting classes. That is the case for some (USC) but not for others (Penn St.)

Tim or Quixotehan, using percentages, what do you think are the biggest influencers in recruiting success?

I'm sorry, I don't do percentages - how about fractions?
I think that Charlie's recent recruiting success does not jibe with the survey results, players may not always choose the coach that is the warmiest/fuzziest to play for. I imagine that a recruit's decision boils down to a whole lot more than the likability of the coach. Here are my biggest influencers (pulled from my head)

Provide best shot at pros: 4/9
Competition/depth at position: 8/21
School location/proximity to home: 3/11
Academics of school: 2/13
Television exposure: 1/15
Attractiveness of coeds: 5/13
Dining hall table dessert selection: 1/19
Student newspaper comics: 1/29
Proximity to kryptonite: 1/31

"ND's Hand arrested on solicitation charge" - This is misleading because the vast majority ND prostitutes are NOT police officers! The media is out to get us!
